Me and my friend had a fairly unplanned visit to the restaurant. I found out she worked where I worked and so we got together. It was that simple. At first, this place was hard to find as it is hidden in the monstrous glass building that is the City Center. We finally found it and went in -- no reservations. It was 11:45 a.m. on a weekday and they seated us immediately.
Inside it is very modern, which I usually like, but something about this decor felt very cold to me. From the concrete floors to the industrial metal look of the bar, I just didn't get a warm, comfortable feeling here. The stools and tables were light wood and very contemporary as were the bowls and silverware. But, I think it was the openness and warehousey feeling that caught me off-guard.
As it was lunch, we started with the funky non-alcoholic special of the day, which was really good though I can not recall exactly what it was at this time.
For lunch, they said I had a few vegan options. Of the options, a modified Momo Bap or Ginger Scallion Noodles sounded the best. I went with the Ginger Scallion Noodles with rice instead of noodles. This was surprisingly pretty tasty. I say surprisingly because it sounded so simple -- ginger rice with pickled shiitake, cucumber, scallions, and cabbage. It had some great flavor to it.
So, that's it. We had a simple lunch. My non-vegetarian friend liked her meal too. The dishes were $14 each so not a cheap lunch, but I'd say it is a great place to go for a nicer lunch with a friend. It isn't nearly as fancy as I expected though and that left me a little disappointed. I'd come back, but only for lunch.
