In the remote area of Zephyrhills, Florida about 50 minutes outside of Tampa, there are very few vegan options. Last year, I went to Best Thai & Sushi hoping for a good experience, but I left disappointed. This year, I found myself in this city again and my friends decided to go back to this restaurant so I begrudgingly obliged. I noticed a difference as soon as we pulled up as they had replaced the hanging sign with lighted letters that looked so much better.
Inside, the restaurant looked the same with its light wood tables and eclectic artwork. Our large party took a seat against the wall and took a look at the menu. The menu features a plethora of Thai and Japanese dishes -- lots to choose from. With appetizers like deep-fried tofu and edamame, they have all the staples.
We ordered a bottle of sake, which was really nice.
Then, we started with some avocado rolls from the Japanese sushi menu. They were pretty good.
For my entree, I ordered the Basil Sauce that was served with bell peppers, onions, scallions, and carrots with tofu in a basil sauce. This was a really tasty dish with lots of veggies in a delicious sauce.
All in all, I was really happy. The quality of the food appeared to have improved 100% since last year. I was pleasantly surprised. For just $9.50, the entree was a steal. The service was okay and the atmosphere was casual. It wasn't at all the best Thai & Sushi I'd ever had as the name would imply, but for Zephyrhills, I'd say this is one of the best restaurants in the city.
