White Girl Salsa and Food Should Taste Good Tortilla Chips

Obviously, food should taste good. But, what kind of company is conceited enough to call their food "Food Should Taste Good?"  A company whose food tastes really good, that's who!  I remember the first time I saw these chips thinking "they better really taste good if they are going to call themselves that." Then, I bought the olive chips and was like, "yeah, these are really good."  Fast forward to today and I've had the opportunity to try many of their 17 varieties of tortilla chips and have loved them all.

I paired them with this awesome green tomatillo-based salsa that you may have noticed I referenced in a few other reviews. White Girl Salsa was created by Julie Nirvelli, a white girl who made salsa for her Hispanic friends who then said they couldn't believe a white girl could make salsa that good. And with that, White Girl Salsa was born. The best thing about all five of her flavors is that they are all-natural (no preservatives or fillers), vegan, and gluten-free so everyone can enjoy them.

First, I tried the Blue Corn chips with the Medium Tomatillo salsa.  The blue corn chips are hexagonally shaped and are so much better than most blue corn chips I've tasted because they have flax, quinoa, sunflower, and sesame seeds in them. You can actually taste all of the different seeds.  They also had just the right texture and crunch. The medium tomatillo sauce had a nice tomatillo flavor to it with just the right amount of spiciness from the serrano chilies. I loved the little chunks of onion and tomatoes too! If you aren't a big green salsa fan, I still encourage you to give this one a try because it is really good.

The next combo I put together was the Jalapeno chips with the Hot Tomatillo salsa. I have to admit early on that this was my favorite combo. Most of you know that I love hot, hot, hot so pairing the spicy chips with the super hot salsa is always pleasing to my palate. And hot that salsa was! It wasn't your typical "hot" salsa. It was made with habanero chilis so it is super hot and oh so good! The jalapeno chips were incredibly good as well and to find out their red color comes from crushed red peppers rather than from some artificial ingredient makes me happy.

Before I tried all of these flavors, the Olive chip was my favorite. I've always been a big fan of the taste of the black, green, and kalamata olives crushed together with corn, which is what they do to make these stunning chips. These were paired with the Mild Tomatillo salsa, which is just a milder version of the Medium. The mild salsa allows the chips to shine in all their flavorful sunshine while adding a great tomatillo flavor.

The Lime flavor I found to go well with any of the salsas. These chips have a very strong lime taste that is tempered by the salsas. My favorite pairing was with the Smokey Chipotle salsa though, which I wrote about in my recipe for Chipotle Seitan Fajitas with Beans.

Lastly, I tried the Multigrain, which is just grain good. You can see and taste the flax and sesame seeds mixed with stone-ground corn. Again, this chip could really pair with any of these salsas.

White Girl Salsa also makes a Cranberry Mango flavored salsa, which I am saving to try later. It is just so unique that I want to do something fun with it. Stay tuned...

As you may have noticed, all of the Food Should Taste Good chips have their own unique shape, which makes them very different from other manufacturers chips that are usually the same shape with different flavors. This makes for a great display if you have a bunch of different flavors. I should also mention that they are currently in the process for getting certified by the Non-GMO Project, which means the corn they use is not GMO. Yay! You can find Food Should Taste Good chips in grocery stores across the country or you can order them here.

For White Girl Salsa, she is still expanding her distribution, but you can find her in Whole Foods in seventeen states and also in other retailers in four other states. She is not in DC yet, but you can order her salsa online here.  Taste the full-on goodness of the Food Should Taste Good chips with the White Girl Salsa - a perfect party pairing.
