PROBAR - Meal Replacement Bars

In all these years, after seeing the PROBARs on the shelves, I had never tried them, that is, until now.  PROBARs are meal replacement bars made with whole grains, chunky nuts, and fruits.  They are made with all-natural, organic, and purely vegan ingredients.

I have to admit that when I first glanced at the wrapper, I was a bit taken aback by the sheer number of ingredients. I tend to gravitate towards bars that have fewer than 8 ingredients. This one had a list half the length of the package, but when I looked closely I realized it was all good-for-you stuff. Whew!

They just came out with four new flavors so I gave them all a try. The first one I tried was the double chocolate because I am a chocolate fanatic. It was loaded with organic rolled oats, chocolate chips, and whole almonds; sweetened with brown rice syrup; and held together by cashew butter and dates. The result is a chewy, seedy bar with an odd chocolate mint taste. I liked the bar, but it wasn't my favorite and I couldn't figure out where that minty taste was coming from.

The next one I tried was the peanut butter flavor. It was loaded with whole peanuts! I am just not used to seeing whole nuts in bars so I thought this was great. If you love peanut butter, you'll love this chunky bar, which not only has whole peanuts, but also has whole almonds, flaxseed, and raisins. Yum!

Then I tried the superfruit slam. This one was much fruitier than the others. Much like the others, it was thick and chewy, but also quite sticky probably from the sugars from the fruits. It is packed with apple juice infused strawberries, papaya, pineapple, and the PROBAR Superfruit Blend consisting of acai powder, mangosteen powder, purple corn extract powder, and camu camu powder. It also has brazil nuts, sunflower seeds, flax seeds, pumpkin seeds, and hemp seeds. Talk about a nutritious bar!

Lastly, I tried the peanut butter chocolate chip. I unintentionally saved the best one for last -- this was my favorite. This is the perfect meal replacement bar! I forgot my breakfast one morning and ate this instead and I wasn't hungry until lunch. This bar has chunky chocolate chips and whole peanuts with peanut butter all rolled up into a thick, chewy, delicious bar. I seriously could have eaten like five of these.

All of the PROBARs were thick and chewy and packed with nutritional goodness. The only downside of these bars is that because they are packed with whole grains and nuts, they are pretty high in calories and fat. For example, the peanut butter chocolate chip bar is 393 calories and 23 grams of fat. You don't have to eat it all in one sitting if you don't want to, but I challenge you to just eat half. They are so good that you will want to devour each bar; and filling enough that you will lay off the snacks for hours so I think it is a good trade off.

If you can't find them in your grocery store, you can either purchase them here through Amazon or you can purchase them direct through PROBAR.  If you purchase them direct, they are offering a one-time discount of 40% off for my readers by using the coupon code BLOGGER at checkout. Please let me know what you think! Now I want to try the rest of the flavors!
